Genealogy News Updates
2020 has been a challange for all of us and as genealogist we tried to keep ourselves busy with our ancestry searches using online sites. With the progress of vaccinations coming in 2021, our hope is to return to our local resources and road trips. In preperation of looking ahead remember to visit those sites online or call and check days and hours of availability before finalizing any travel plans.
There are 100 counties in North Carolina and a good way to keep up with whats going on is to read the blog from the State Archives of North Carolina. The blog is titled "History For All the People." https://ncarchives.wpcomstaging.com/ There is genealogical research information that is of great value to a researcher at this site, be sure to check it out.
The Heritage Room Reopens with restrictions
The Heritage Room located in the Old Historic Courthouse in downtown Monroe, NC has reopened with some restrictions.
Due to the size of our research room we are limited to only 2 researchers at a time and ask that you call head (704-289-6737) and make an appointment. This will keep you from being disappointed if someone is already here when you arrive.
And of course Mask ARE required!
Our volunteers can also do look ups and mail or send electronically if you do not feel comfortable visiting us at this time.
Stay safe, we will get through this.
DNA Boot Camp Videos Available to Members
GUESS WHAT CGS IS PROVIDING ITS MEMBERS?
The Officers and volunteers of the Carolinas Genealogical Society continuously discuss what information can be provided to our members on our website to help all members with their family research. There are several ideas being discussed but the COVID-19 cut short our planning sessions and work. With almost all meetings and events cancelled due to Coronavirus, the Society purchased DNA BOOT CAMP VIDEOS.
If you're a member, login to the Member's Only area and watch the videos from your computer. If you're not a member we invite you to join. You can join online using paypal and will be sent a login ID and password. There are nine (2-part) boot camps with printable handouts. (Each webinar must be seen from the Members’ Only page and cannot be downloaded to watch later off-line.) DNA Boot Camps was produced by Thomas MacEntee, Founder & CEO of High-Definition Genealogy, LLC and the lecturer/presenter is DNA expert Mary Eberle of DNA Hunters, LLC. A very good return on your investment of only $18.00 for individual per year.
