"GSRS will meet January 12, 2020, at 2:30 pm in the Danbury Public Library, West Main Street, Danbury, NC. Jason Anthony, park ranger at Hanging Rock State Park, will share a presentation on the formation and history of the Civilian Conservation Corps. Members will remember Jason’s interesting and informative program on the development of Hanging Rock State Park he shared with us in July. We were eager to have him back to continue sharing his knowledge of this wonderful park and related subjects.
The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) between 1935 and 1942, constructed much of the park. A concrete and earthen dam completed in 1938 impounded a 12-acre lake, and a stone bathhouse, diving tower and sandy beach also were built. Other facilities constructed by the CCC include a park road and parking area, a picnic area and shelter, and hiking trails.
The Board of Directors will meet at 1:30 pm. Come join us and bring a friend for an afternoon of good information, great fellowship, tasty refreshments, and even meet a cousin or two!"
